An 18-year-old Ardmore man, who allegedly sprayed a gas station parking lot with bullets Friday night, turned himself in at the county jail Saturday afternoon.
Det. Matt Dunn, Ardmore Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, said Kelly Wayne Skaggs Jr. voluntarily surrendered to authorities. He was booked into the Carter County Detention Center on a pending charge of discharging a firearm from a vehicle. Dunn said witnesses had identified Skaggs as the person who fired multiple shots about 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a gas station located at the intersection of 12th Avenue and G Street NW.
“He and the victim, who apparently has been involved in an ongoing dispute with Skaggs ended up at the gas station at the same time. They had a verbal altercation. Skaggs got back in a car, in which he was a rear seat passenger, brandished a gun and began firing. We believe he fired at least 10 to 12 shots,” Dunn said Saturday afternoon. “No one was hurt and at this point I’m not aware of any property damage.”
Skaggs was apparently aware he had been identified as the shooter. A fact investigators believe led to his surrender. But while Skaggs turned himself in, he didn’t bring the gun he’d allegedly used with him.
“At this time we have not recovered the firearm,” Dunn said.
While the investigation continued Saturday, Dunn said he anticipated presenting reports to the district attorney’s office for review and the filing of formal charges Monday.
