As a member of the Gene Autry Roping Club fights her second battle against cancer, the club is coming together in hopes to help with their fellow member’s medical costs. 

GARC member Dianne Jones said a benefit playday and silent auction will be Saturday, Oct. 8 at the arena located at 6247 Gene Autry Rd., Ardmore. Entries will open at 5 p.m. and the events start at 6 p.m.

“All proceeds from entries, concession and the silent auction will go to Peggy Russell to help defray some of her medical expenses in her fight against cancer,” Jones said. 

Entries can be entered in advance, but will also be accepted the day of, she said. Events include barrels, flag race, poles, ring race/stake race and a mystery race. 

“Items for the silent auction include jams and jellies, a car detail, horse tack, wall art, designer sunglasses, horseshoe art and much more,” Jones said. “We hope to get a good turnout.” 

Age groups for contestants are 9 and under, 10 to 13, 14 to 18, senior women 19 and older, senior men 19 and older, women 40 and over and men 40 and over. 

Jones said there is a one-time $3 office charge per contestant. Entry fees are $1 per class for 9 and under and $2 per class for all other ages. 

GARC usually has a playday each month, March through September, on the second Saturday.
