Jimmy E. Wright, age 77, passed away on Oct. 30, 2016, in Ardmore.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Bob Lee to officiate.
A longtime Ardmore resident, Jimmy was born on Sept. 19, 1939, to the late Valter Wright Mitchell and stepfather, Buck Mitchell, at Fox, Okla.
Jimmy was a graduate of Fox Schools, class of 1958. He worked for Nance Pecan Company for 20 plus years and then took a job with Joe Brown Company as a mechanic and he worked there until his retirement. Jimmy was an active member of the community.
In his retirement, he donated his time at Mercy Hospital of Ardmore, where he was known by many as the “Popcorn Man.” Jimmy always tried to put a smile on your face.
He was very dedicated to his work as well as his family. He was always there to help, no matter who you were or where you were. As a blood donor, Jimmy donated 335 times, 41 and one-half gallons of blood at the Oklahoma Blood Bank and helped to save over 1,006 lives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Evelyn Wright.
Jimmy is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Terry and Brian Smithey of Alva, Wendy and Terry Fitch of Oklahoma City, Angela and Kenneth Caldwell of Ardmore, and Toni and Rick Morgan of Ardmore. Jimmy had 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings, as well as many other family members and friends.
The family will greet visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Ardmore.
