Q: What made you decide to work in schools?
When I started college, after marriage and children, I planned on being a nurse. During my beginning college years, I was working as a part-time teacher assistant at my children’s school when the principal (Alvie Nelson) told me I was wasting my time on a nursing degree, my calling was in education. After much debate and a (Pre Med) Micro Biology class that ate my lunch, I decided to change my major and follow in my father’s footsteps and become a teacher. My father had retired from teaching prior to my starting in my education career so I had a wonderful coach at my side. I had always believed that whatever you choose to do in life should be enjoyable and natural, to me being an educator is.
