Michael Anthony Rodriguez, 58, passed away suddenly on Dec. 17, 2016, in Norman.
Michael was born Jan. 31, 1958, in San Antonio, the son of the late Joseph and Jerri Rozzell Rodriguez. Following his graduation from Ardmore High School, the class of 1976, he began working as a teller for Exchange bank and after 25 years retired as Vice President of the Trust department. Michael had been involved in the Optimist Club of Ardmore and with the DARE Program while his children were in school. He was presently the business manager for Southern Oklahoma Cardiologist Specialists.
He and the former Carolyn Burkhart were married Aug. 4, 1978, at the Lake Murray Chapel, and were the parents of two children, Michael and Michelle.
Michelle wrote of her father, “My dad became an angel on Saturday. I am heartbroken over this, but instead of letting sadness consume me, I’m going to tell you about how heaven gained an amazing man.
I know some of you remember my dad and his friendly and genuine personality. He could talk to anybody about anything. He knew a lot of people and it was because he was involved in the community, Michael’s and my sports and activities. Whether he was coaching YMCA t-ball, Optimist basketball or cheering from the sidelines, he was as much a part of our lives as he was for some of you.
As my brother and I grew up, his involvement in our lives never changed. He was one of our biggest fans. Without his and mom’s love and support I wouldn’t be where I am today. They set the bar pretty high as parents and for that I am forever thankful.
He was also an awesome Grampy to Calyn and Emme. They loved him so much. I’m glad they were able to know their grandpa and spend time with him. They knew he loved them and would do anything for them.
I wish we had more time together, but I’m thankful that he was in our lives for as long as he was. His love, smile, laugh and memories are forever with us. He’s our guardian angel and joins Braeden, other family members and the fur babies.
He was a huge Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys fan, and to quote my dad, “Boomer Sooner” and “How ‘bout them Cowboys!”
Love you daddy! I will always be your Shelly Belly! Rest In Peace.”
Michael is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home; a son, Michael Joseph Rodriguez; a daughter, Michelle Porter and her husband, Sean; and his two granddaughters, Calyn and Emme.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Dec. 21, 2016, at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Cremation-With-Care will be provided by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hdouglasfuneralhome.com.
