Editors note: It’s no secret there are hard working dogs and cats. But while some are tending to traditional animal jobs, like herding cattle or mousing in barns, others are going to work with their owners and are performing “people” jobs at local stores, offices or job sites, like Sadie who never misses a day on the job at Sprekelmeyer Printing Company.

Name and occupation: Sadie is a 1 1/2-year-old Maltipoo (Maltese and Toy Poodle mix) who has served as part of the Sprekelmeyer management team, along with Donny Black, since she was just 6 weeks old. Although young, Sadie has risen to the challenge of filling the unparalleled paw prints of her predecessor, Bella, who tragically died and left an endearing dog that works legacy behind.

Special talents: There is no mistaking Sadie is in charge of meeting the public. Whether it’s a longtime customer or a complete stranger that comes through the door, everyone gets an ultra-warm welcome that’s much more than a tail wag. Sadie literally percolates with her captivating and effervescent personality and a no-holds-barred, hopping, spinning, “I’m so glad to meet you” greeting that virtually commands a response and a smile. But that’s just part of this girl’s bubbling hello. There’s also a spin and dodge move as she takes off on her own race circuit through several rooms, only to be back at the feet of the person whose arrival she’s heralding in mere seconds so she can perform the routine again and again and again.

And with such a sparkling spunk and determination to do the job she has to have a title.

“I like to call her the director of first impressions,” Black said.

But wait. Is that a camera? In a super dog bound she’s onto Black’s lap and posing for photos.

“She’s had her picture taken for our newsletter and a few other company brochures,” Black admits as Sadie professionally goes into model mode, giving the photographer a choice of front-face adorable shots, as well as profiles and head tilts.

What makes her perfect for her people job? Black says Sadie never needs a day off and she’s always ready to display her fun-loving, affectionate, active and charming nature. Although once on the job, she knows how to pace herself throughout her busy day that’s filled with welcoming those who come into the business and taking Black on walks. Her secret?

“Her other specialty is napping,” Black explains.

However, the one thing that makes her absolutely perfect for her people job are the fans she’s collected since her very first day on the job.
