LONE GROVE—A Carter County family and their pets lost their home Tuesday to a fire that spread rapidly, but were able to safely make it out of the home with no injuries.

Fire Chief Stacey Phelps said when crews responded to the fire, which had started on the south side of the house, it had already spread all the way through the attic with a south wind pushing the fire through the home.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to get it under control, but more than three hours to make sure all hot spots were completely out.

Crews were then dispatched to a grass fire on Case Circle, but Phelps said it didn’t take long to get that fire under control.
