GENE AUTRY — Floyd Vernon Pirtle, age 70, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Dallas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Kirk Rushing to officiate. Interment to follow in Wiley Cemetery, Johnston County, Okla.
Floyd was born on Sept. 12, 1946, in Ardmore, to Johnnie Pirtle and Ella Mae (Gordon) Pirtle. Floyd was a graduate as a honor student of Douglass High School, Ardmore, Class of 1964 and went on to attend East Central University. At an early age, he united with Warren Memorial Methodist Church. Floyd served his country when he was called to serve in the Air Force, during the Vietnam War and received his honorable discharge and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Carolyn Johnson on Aug. 14, 1970. He returned to Oklahoma and took a position as a lab technician with Uniroyal Tire Plant in the 1970s where he worked for 20 plus years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ella Cox, Diane Allen and Paula Davis; and one niece, Jennifer Allen Godwin.
Floyd is survived by his daughters, Anita Pirtle and Beverly Pirtle; two sons, Stephen Pirtle and wife, Alicia and Bryan Pirtle and wife, JuNell; grandchildren, Desiree, Aryon, Aazayleah, Madison, Jai’Bryan, Jhamyis, twins: Nyla and Nadya, and JaNiyah; great-grandchild, Kylan; brothers: John Edward Pirtle, Winston Pirtle and Don Pirtle; sisters: Sherri Pickens and Wallicia Turner; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Pirtle, Don Pirtle Jr., Quincey Pirtle, Stephon Gordon, Mark Gordon and Reginale Banks. Honorary bearers are John Pirtle, Winston Pirtle, Don Pirtle, Thomas Varner and John Thompson.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday evening, June 16, 2017, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla.
