Funeral services for James “Bruce” Smith, 79 are scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow at McAlister Cemetery in Overbrook.
The family will host a visitation on Tuesday  evening at the funeral home from 6  to 7 p.m. Bruce was born May 5, 1938 in Russett, OK to James Loyd and Gladys Hope (Metcalf) Smith.
He passed this life on July 1, 2017 at his residence in Ardmore with his  wife and daughters by his side.
He and Marcella R. Whitson were married on June 1, 1957. They had just celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary. He was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Coon Hunters Association, and a 56-year member of the Masonic Lodge # 31. He and Marcella both, were members of the Mattie Bruce Chapter of the O.E.S. He was of the Baptist faith. Bruce and Marcella enjoyed 34 happy years on their farm in Love County where they raised numerous cattle, chickens, bailed hay, and enjoyed growing a very productive garden. Bruces’ greatest love was raising, training and hunting Walker hounds. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their many activities.
He retired from Total Refinery after 30 of service as an “A” Operator in the Alky Unit.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Marcella of the home; daughters, Stacy Sullivan and husband John of Ardmore, Shelly Hope Smith of Norman; sisters, Loretta Perkins of Newcastle, Ok., Janetta Gardner and husband Oscar of McKinney, Tx.; grandchildren, Waylon Bamburg and wife Bridgett of Ardmore, OK., Wesley Bamburg and wife Jeanna of Houston, Tx. and Justin Arledge and wife Haley of Ardmore; great grandchildren Jillian, Peyton, Carter, Claire and Fisher, sister-in- law; Anita “Candy” Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ginger Gail Bamburg, brother, Floyd W. Smith Sr.; brother in law J.O. Perkins. Serving as Pallbearers will be his three grandsons, Waylon, Wesley and Justin, Kenneth Miller, Ernie Hoskins and Richard Davis.
