A woman in her late 30s mistook her vehicle’s gas pedal for the brake pedal and accidentally sped through the storefront of Ardmart Grocery & Deli around 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to Ardmore police.
No injuries were reported after the woman shattered the windows and crashed through the brick facade of the convenience store on North Washington St. with her GMC pickup, said Sgt. Brice Wooley.
Wooley said the woman didn’t appear to be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.
Ardmart employee Zabreena Love was in the back of the store when the truck crashed through the storefront. She said her coworker was in the restroom at the time.
Taryn Gorbett was inside her home on a nearby block when she heard the noise from the crash. She helped the driver out of her vehicle and helped removing the debris.
“I was in my house, and then I heard it and ran over here and saw (all this debri),” Gorbett said. “We had to help get (the driver) out.”
Wooley said the store had to shut off electricity for a significant amount of time as the owners and volunteers cleared the rubble. There is no estimate for the cost of damage sustained, but he said it was substantial.
