Clint Glennis Lyons, 85, was born Aug. 12, 1932, at Pike, Okla., the son of W.A. “Hoss” Lyons and Effie Madera Lyons. He passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Whispering Oaks Nursing Facility in Ardmore, Okla. surrounded by loved ones.
A lifetime resident of Ardmore and Burneyville, Okla., he and Dova Katherine “Kathy” Lyons met in Dallas, Texas, and united for life on March 7, 1956. Clint was a truck driver for 28 years.
He served as President of the Ardmore CB Club for many years, which raised funds for many individuals with disabilities. He also worked in construction, being on the crews that built Interstate 35 through the Arbuckle Mountains and also Highway 32 in Love County. In 1982, they bought Horn’s Corner Grocery and then Super L Grocery in Leon, Okla., operating them for many years.
He finally retired in 2010. Clint, an avid outdoorsman and hunter, taught his grandchildren how to hunt and shoot guns. He also had a love for horses, gardening, dancing and enjoyed family vacations and get-togethers.
Preceding him in death was his wife in 2015; parents; and two brothers, Bonnie Lyons and Woody Lyons.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in- law, Debbie Lane and husband Melvin of Dallas, Texas, and Becky Hembree and husband Kelly of Ardmore; son, Hank Lyons and wife Cappy, also of Ardmore; a granddaughter they raised, Cherri Hartman and husband Gary of Leon; granddaughters, Melanie Ferguson and husband Eric of Yukon, Okla., Amy Pena and husband Jesus of Forney, Texas, Stephanie Carroll and husband Michael, also of Forney, Texas; grandsons, Keeghan and Kameron Hembree of Ardmore; great-grandchildren, Clinton and Gracie Stephens, Landon Ferguson, Lane, Chevy, and LeAnn Pena, and Adley Carroll; step grandchildren, JD Hartman and wife, Katie, Cody and Chastity Hartman; and step great-granddaughter, Cadence Hartman; sister, Odessa “Sis” Thomas of Wills Point, Texas; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Serving as casket bearers will be Clinton Stephens, Colton Reed, Jesus Pena, Eric Ferguson, Michael Carroll and Keeghan Hembree. Honorary bearers will be Don Reed, Larry Gilcrease, Curtis Nipp, Houston Love and the nursing staff of Whispering Oaks Nursing Facility.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Flanagan- Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta, Okla. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Rubottom Baptist Church, Rubottom, Okla., with Rev. Ryan Eakins officiating.
Graveside services will follow at the Leon Cemetery, Leon.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 “C” St. NW in Ardmore.
