Sarah “Sally” (Love) Collins was born July 9, 1924, to Elinor (Barron) and Lorenzo Thurmond Love in Ardmore, Okla. She passed from this life to a heavenly one on Oct. 7, 2017. Sally graduated from Ardmore High School in 1941. Following graduation she attended Monticello Junior College in Alton, Illinois, and then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. While at OU, Sally met Thomas Frederick Collins from Oklahoma City and they were married on Dec. 20, 1947. Fred and Sally lived in Oklahoma City for three years and then moved to Ardmore, where they lived happily until Fred passed away in February of 2011. Sally spent many years as a volunteer with the Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Ardmore Day Nursery, Ardmore Junior Garden Club, and the Ivy Garden Club. She enjoyed playing Mahjong with friends, was a life-long member of The First Christian Church of Ardmore (Disciples of Christ), and loved traveling the world with Fred.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Elinor and Lorenzo Thurmond Love; husband, T. Fred Collins; and sister, Elinor Volker.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Thomas F. Collins, Jr. and his wife D’Lila of Oklahoma City, Laura Love Clay and her husband Dr. Garland Clay of Ardmore, and Lorenzo T. Collins and his wife Rebecca of Ardmore; seven grandchildren, Mallory Love Clark and her husband Billy, Thomas F. Collins, III and his wife Erica, Dr. Sarah Veazey and her husband John, L. Ryan Collins and his wife Lindy, Marci Love Deck and her husband James, Natalie Collins, and Allison Collins; and eight great-grandchildren, Barron Clark, Elinor Love Clark, Isabella Clark, Harper Love Collins, Thomas F. Collins, IV, Laura Elizabeth Veazey, Emery Love Collins, and Lorenzo Gray Collins.
A Celebration of Sally’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Benjamin Gensic officiating. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home.
