Thomas Carroll Edmonds passed away from this world Oct. 10, 2017 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was born Feb. 1, 1934 to Carroll and Joyce Edmonds of Okmulgee, Okla.
Tom grew up in Oklahoma City with two siblings, brother David and sister Billy Jean Edmonds. He attended Putman City Schools and graduated in 1953, where he played multiple sports and was an outstanding athlete. He received a football scholarship and played football at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
There he met his bride to be, Sue Burke Turner, and they were married on Aug. 18, 1956. Tom graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University and was drafted by both the Philadelphia Eagles and the United States Marines. He and Sue were stationed in Quantico, Virginia where he served as a 2nd Lieutenant.
While in Quantico their first child, Karan Sue Edmonds, was born on Sept. 7, 1957.
After his enlistment in the Marines ended, Tom and Sue moved to Oklahoma City to begin working with General Adjustment Bureau where he worked for 20 years. It was there Tom and Sue had their son Richard Brook Edmonds on Jan. 19, 1961. Tom finished his career with the Oklahoma Insurance Department where he worked as a special investigator for worker compensation cases.a Tom was a devoted father and husband and attended First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for many years. Tom’s love for his Lord was evident in his desire to teach high school boys in Sunday school for many years, as well as in mission trips he and Sue participated in and in his passion for sharing Jesus Christ with others.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Sue (Burke Turner) Edmonds of the home. Daughter Karan Sue Edmonds Stewart and her husband David of Nacogdoches, Texas; Son, Richard Brook Edmonds and his wife Lynette Ann of Ardmore, Okla.; Granddaughters Amanda Adams of Beaumont, Texas and Laura Wiederhold and husband Henry of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandsons, Aaron Cort Edmonds of Bend, Oregon and Christian Brook Edmonds of Chicago, Illinois; Great granddaughter Olivia of Beaumont, Texas.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Joyce Edmonds, his sister, Billy Jean, and brother David Edmonds.
The family requests any memorial gift to be made to either Victory Hospice, 714 E. Main, Tishomingo, Okla., 73460, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or the First Baptist Church, 225 1st Ave. SW, Ardmore, Okla., 73401.
The family would like to deeply thank the 5th floor staff of Mercy Hospital, the Staff of South Brook Skilled Nursing, Kim Wright, Ardmore Veterans Center, Daniel Oiler and Victory Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Tom and his entire family.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. The family will host a visitation Friday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Craddock Funeral Home.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Wallen, Richard Wallen, Dr. Pat Wallace, Paul Caldwell, Rocky Northcutt, Don Kendrick, David Jones, David Smart, Bill Manner, Jim Carroll, Sterling Eggleston, Emmitt Hudgins, Mike Carr, Garland Clay, James Duty, Lee Piatt, Phil McAnally and Ed Lee.
