LONE GROVE — Having a strong balance can lead to great things during a season.

Following a mixed tournament weekend at Bethel, the Lone Grove Lady Horns got back to basics Tuesday night at home, cruising past Rock Creek on Homecoming night 67-36.

A huge part of the Lady Horns success came from having eight players score four or more points in the contest.

“No one cares who gets the ball and these girls share it well out there,” Lone Grove coach Jeff Word said. “That’s the first time Rock Creek has gotten out of their pressure defense all season. When you have balanced scoring in the zone they run, then it made us pretty hard to guard out there.”

At the end of the first quarter though, the Lady Mustangs kept things close as they trailed Lone Grove 16-14.

But, as the game progressed towards halftime, so did the Lady Horns offensive production.

Lone Grove built up a double-digit lead in the second quarter, giving them a 35-21 lead at the break.

Another single digit quarter by the Lady Mustangs in the third paved the way for the Lady Horns to increase their advantage to 49-29 after three complete quarters.

Rock Creek struggled all evening on the boards, especially with junior post Shelby Stevenson down low. Stevenson finished with 17 points on the evening and provided plenty of offense for the Lady Horns in the second half.

“It’s imperative you have inside-out basketball,” Word said. “To have a post player like Shelby with her presence down low makes everyone else job easier. She came off the bench and dominated the paint for us tonight.”

LGHS finished off the game with its third straight quarter of holding Rock Creek to single digits in the fourth, as the Lady Horns scored 18 of their own.

Lydia Saavedra finished with 11 points for Lone Grove, with Madison Anderson, Taleigh Nail, and Anna Black each scoring eight points.

Cheyanne Davis scored seven points for the Lady Horns.

Lone Grove moved to 5-2 with the victory and will be on the road against Comanche at 6:30 p.m. Friday night.
