MADILL — Herbert Gale Ellis, 76, of Madill, Okla., passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the hospital in Ardmore. He was born on Sept. 18, 1941, in Bromide, Okla., to the late Herbert Ellis and Amanda Lorene Chambers Ellis. Gale was raised in Springer, Okla., where he graduated from the Springer High School in 1959. As a teenager, he worked for Chapman Family Ranch and lived upon the top of the Arbuckle Mountains.  He also worked for Sam Daube on the Daube Ranch before moving to Pawhuska, where he worked for Chapman Barnard Ranch. He married Virginia Stowers on April 6, 1963, in Madill. In 1969, he went into full-time ministry and his first church was a Pentecostal Church in Atoka, Okla. Gale ministered numerous churches throughout his career. He retired in 2005 from Tulsa Vern Pentecostal church. He lived in Coffeyville, Kan., before moving to Marshall County in 2010. Gale enjoyed fishing, reading western novels, loved playing his guitar and singing. His greatest love was spending time with his family.   
He is survived by: wife, Virginia Ellis, Madill; children: Stacey Gale Ellis, Madill; James William Ellis, Madill; and Amanda Wulf and husband, Roy, Kingston, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother: Lester Ellis and wife, Jean, Topeka, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jackie Cunnish.    
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Friday, March 16, 2018.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill. Don Kizer will officiate the service. Interment will be at the Rollins Cemetery, Simpson, Okla. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill. Condolences may be sent to
