HEALDTON — Byron Lee Burns, of Wilson, passed away after a short illness on May 9, 2018, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, at the age of 70. He was born April 5, 1948, in Thomas, Okla., to Rev. A.E. and Kathleen (Sweeney) Burns.
He graduated from high school in Artesia, N.M., in 1966, and served in the United States Army as a proud Vietnam Veteran. He met the love of his life as a teenager and married her, Lois Jean Pruitt, on June 30, 1968. Upon his honorable discharge, Byron began his career with Shell Pipeline, living in Denver City, then McCamey, Midland and Houston, retiring in 2003. He was a gifted church organist and a lifelong Baptist, becoming a Christian at the age of five. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father and fun-loving grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Sheryl Cavin; sons, Michael (Donna) Burns, Stephen (Jaime) Burns; grandchildren, Maddie, Emma and Jackson Cavin; Shawn Fangman; Aubrey, Lauren, Zachary and Nathan Burns; Keith, Bryant and Jordan Burns; sister-in-law, Janet Reynolds; brother, Bobby (Denise) Burns; sister, Tricia (Steve) Irion; sister-in-law, Marty Burns; niece Francis Yerger; nephews, Damon Broxson and Austin Burns.
He is predeceased by his parents, brother David Burns, in-laws Everett and Zulie May Pruitt; and nephew, Tyler Burns.
Viewing will be 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Healdton. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the same location. Burial is at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum, Okla., at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
