Felony charges were filed Friday in a case brought to the Carter County District Attorney’s office by Healdton Police. HPD officer Russell Rains was the arresting officer in the matter of the state versus Kenny Bryan Perkins II. Perkins was allegedly in possession of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma on May 22, 2018. That same vehicle had been stolen from Linda Reed of Redondo Beach, California in August 2017. According to court documents, Perkins knew the vehicle was stolen and that he was not authorized to use the vehicle.
In addition to the felony charge of Possession of a stolen vehicle, a misdemeanor charge was filed for Knowingly concealing stolen property. Charging documents in that case allege that Perkins knowingly concealed an Oklahoma license plate EEQ764 from a Maxine Powell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
If convicted, the felony count of Possession of a stolen vehicle could lead to 1-5 years in the custody of the Department of Corrections, a $500-$5000 fine or both. The misdemeanor charge for knowingly concealing stolen property could hold a punishment of imprisonment in the county jail for a period not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding $500 or both such fine and imprisonment.
Carter County District Court records indicate Perkins was released on $500 cash in lieu of bail after an initial hearing before Judge Carson Brooks Monday.
