Services for Scottie Gene Roper, 52, of Marietta, Okla., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, in the Eastman Baptist Church with Rev. Hollis Parsons and Bro. Murray McMurray officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Burneyville Cemetery, Burneyville, Okla., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Scottie was born January 9, 1966 in Ardmore, Okla., the son of Karrol Odis “K.O.” Roper and Virginia Ann Moore Roper. He passed away Saturday, June 16, near Kingston, Okla.
A lifelong resident of Love County, Scottie graduated from Turner High School and then earned a building trades certificate. After his certification he taught building trades at the Gainesville State School for a number of years. In addition, he also served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on February 24, 1986. Scottie and Sheila Ann Parsons were married in Gainesville, Texas on July 15, 1988. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, riding his Harley, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, as well as his many friends. Quite a handyman, he also enjoyed building things. Scottie was the owner/operator of Roper’s Trash Service and also delivered fuel for Progressive Transportation.
He was preceded in death by his father, K.O. Roper.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila of the home; mother, Virginia Roper of Burneyville; four sons, Brandon Roper and his two children of Elk City, Okla., Kyle and Callie Langston and their three children of Marietta, Dustin and Lara Roper and their four children of Lone Grove, Okla., and Nathan Roper of Durant, Okla.; two daughters, Kristin Roper and her three children of Sanger, Texas, and Emily Roper of the home; three brothers, Cecil and Vickie Roper of Lebanon, Okla., Weldon and Sheila Kay Roper of the Shady Dale Community, and Richard and Laurie Roper of Thackerville, Okla.; sister, Leona “Jean” Morrison of Temple, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers will be Donald Rains, Weldon Gene Rains, Michael Dale Sampson, Tony Gentry, Jim King, and Bobby Roper. Honorary bearers are Danny Wolfe, Lance Christie, Keith Hallum, Alan Gilbert, and David Parsons.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
