This July, the first film will play on the big screen at the new Cool Breeze RV Cinema and Resort, and for the first time in decades Ardmore area residents will be able to enjoy a drive-in theater close to home.
The evening will also serve as a second sort of grand opening for the resort, which celebrated its ribbon cutting on May 10. Co-owner David Horner described just how the unique combinations of businesses came to be.
“Our whole team collaborated to come up with this concept,” Horner said. “We said to ourselves, we have an RV park, so how are we going to get people out here. We thought, let’s just build a cinema and make it a drive-in so that people in the RV’s can see our screen.”
In addition to getting the final touches in place for the drive-in, Horner and his team are also busy setting up a cafe for their guests to enjoy.
In fact, the word busy is a perfect description of 19-year-old Horner’s life.
When he is not busy owning and operating his own business, he finds the time to go to college. A 2017 graduate of Ardmore High School, he’ll be beginning the second semester of his sophomore year this fall at the University of Oklahoma and is currently enrolled in summer courses at Murray State College. He is majoring in finance and plans to attend law school after graduation.
In spite of his hectic schedule, Horner remains energetic and upbeat.
“I’ve lived in Ardmore the past 14 years of my life. I love it here and I love to be a part of something like this. To really be able to push things forward in a positive direction for people has always been big for me.”
The drive-in will open on July 10 at 8:30 p.m. and will show films on Fridays and Saturdays. Space is available for 40 cars and there will also be seating on the lawn for those wanting to picnic. The first film will be announced later this week, and they plan on showing both new releases and classic films.
