Funeral services for Martha Sue McMurry, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory officiated by her grandson, Howard McMurry. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the assistance of Jerry Kaynard, Larry Morgan, David McMurry, Daniel McMurry, Alexander Morrison and Walton McMurry serving as pallbearers.
The daughter of the late Howard and Ida Margaret (Von Seeburg) Walton, Sue was born March 9, 1929, in Clarksdale, Miss. She passed from life to live everlasting, Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at her Ardmore residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Sue came to Ardmore in 1953 from her hometown of Montgomery, Ala. She and Jim McMurry were married May 4, 1956, in Ardmore. They were the parents of five children, sons Craig, Christopher, Carl and daughters, Cheryl and Couturier (Tracy).
Education was very important to Sue, she was committed to family, making sure that all knew of her support to achieve their highest potential. It is no small coincidence that there are 14 degrees within the family, producing an attorney, senior hospital executive, business owners and a rocket design engineer.
Sue and her husband, Jim, were the owners of the Ardmore business, Mac’s Wholesale Company. An excellent bridge player, she loved traveling and relished the time spent with her family. Her indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles. She will be missed but not ever forgotten.
Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years, James McMurry; their children, Cheryl McMurry Kaynard and husband, Jerry, Courturier (Tracy) McMurry Morgan and husband, Larry, Craig McMurry and wife, Becke, Christopher McMurry and wife, Debra and Carl McMurry; her grandchildren Emily Choumbakos, Maggie Grindrod and husband, Drew, Suzannah Morrison and Alexander Morrison, Jason Morgan and wife, Martha, Amber McMurry Chavez, Howard McMurry and wife, Jayci, David McMurry and Daniel McMurry, Walton McMurry and wife, Kelli, Christen McMurry, Catherine and Jordan Ham, Grace McMurry and Audrey McMurry; also eight great-grandchildren and her adopted and also loved family, Cap and Yen Ho, their sons and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Ida Margaret Piatnek, and aunt, Elizabeth Barker preceded her in death.
