Two apparently unrelated arrests Wednesday night in Ardmore began with reports of individuals shooting fireworks from their vehicles.
At approximately 11:55 p.m., Ardmore Police Officer Stuart Hoffman was on patrol in the northeast section of the city when dispatch received a report regarding a silver pickup truck allegedly in the area shooting fireworks at homes and cars.
In the officer’s search of the area, he located a vehicle matching the description. A 19-year-old Ardmore man was arrested as a result of the stop on the municipal charges of possession of marijuana and public intoxication. He was transported to the Carter County Detention Center for booking.
APD Capt. Keith Ingle said the night went well despite several calls regarding fireworks in city limits. The department’s patrol unit did make one arrest specifically for illegal fireworks. Officer Juan Galicia responded to calls from several individuals regarding fireworks being discharged in the 700 block of East Broadway. Responding officers witnessed fireworks being set off at around 2:17 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Roff Street NE.
Galicia’s said in his report that a 30-year-old Ardmore male subject was observed by law enforcement setting off the fireworks. Galicia said the man was ordered to stop but fled on foot. He was booked into Carter County Detention Center on the municipal charge of shooting/possession of fireworks in city limits.
Ingle said APD will continue responding to calls regarding fireworks as best they can, as the discharge and possession of fireworks is illegal in Ardmore as it is in several other nearby municipalities.
