Gerald Allen “Jerry” Brown was born Aug. 27, 1939 in Liberal, Kan., to the late Marlin and Erna Edna (Enns) Brown. He grew up on a farm west of Liberal and graduated from Liberal High School, the class of 1957. Active in 4-H during school, he served 2 years as 4-H counsel president.
After graduation, Jerry served two years in the US Army, and was honorably discharged in 1963. Returning to Liberal, he and his brother Don began a custom wheat harvesting business.
He married the former Marjorie Ann Pittman, Dec. 20, 1968, in Liberal. They were active members of the First Baptist Church in Liberal. He and Marjorie had a collaborative and caring relationship. It was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other.
In 1969, Jerry began buying land in South Dakota and eventually ended up owning several thousand acres in South Dakota and Colorado.
In 1987 the family moved to Ardmore, where they became active in the Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Jerry continued to operate the farms in South Dakota until 2005 and in Colorado until 2015.
Following a brief illness, Jerry passed from life to life eternal at Mercy Hospital of Ardmore, Sunday, July 1, 2018.
Jerry is survived by his nephew and friend, who had become like a son, Christopher Pittman, his wife, Kim, and their children, who are like grandchildren, Cheryl, Robert and wife, Jo Anna, Dustin, Krystal, Brianna and Cody all of Lakewood, Colorado; his brother, Donald Brown and wife, Cherie; nephew, Patrick Brown and his wife, Stacie; niece, Saundra Shaw and husband, Barry all of Rapid City, South Dakota.  
In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his wife of forty-seven years, Marjorie Ann, April 11, 2016; his daughter, Betty-Jo Brown, and grandson, Jonathan Brackett.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with Reverend Donny Custar officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the assistance of Chris Pittman, Cody Pittman, Dustin Pittman, Pat Brown, Mark Cunningham and Robert Bronson serving as pallbearers.
