The Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees concert disrupted by a storm has not yet been rescheduled.
The Saturday night concert was set to take place at WinStar World Casino and Resort’s outdoor venue, but was canceled after a sudden storm knocked over a large metal sign, injuring 14 guests. Some outlets reported that a metal archway or tent structure had fallen down, injuring guests.
“It didn’t even fall all the way,” WinStar spokesperson Kym Koch Thompson said. “It fell over to the side and as best as we can tell, it was the wind.”
After the sign fell, 14 injured people were treated at the scene, then taken to local hospitals. Thompson said everyone who was injured has been released.
Thompson said concertgoers were told to take shelter by casino staff at 5 p.m., when lightning was spotted, but about 150 remained in line to enter the venue.
“They were told to seek shelter and pointed to the casino,” Thompson said.
About half an hour later, a downburst of wind knocked over the sign.
