COMANCHE — Dortha Ann Pannell, of Comanche, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, 2018, one day after her 90th birthday, at Elk Crossing, in Duncan. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Ray of Hope Church, with Mike McCord officiating, assisted by Ronnie Bernard. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Viewing will be Thursday 9 a.m. -7 p.m. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
Dortha was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Comanche, to Harley and Lilly (Spencer) Tilley. She was a graduate of Comanche High School. On Feb. 3, 1947, she and Leonard Pannell were united in marriage at Wichita Falls, Texas. Dortha and Leonard, along with Dow and Cheryl Pannell, owned and operated Pannell’s Grocery for many years. She enjoyed quilting, yard work, (especially in her flower beds), and going for long walks. Her greatest joy came from spoiling her kids, grandkids, and great grandchildren. She was a member of Ray of Hope Church.
Survivors include her two daughters: Sherry Morrow and husband James, Ardmore; and Pam Harrel and husband Bobby, Duncan; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Pannell, Comanche; one sister, Karma Harper, Comanche;  six grandchildren: Cheri Dunn and husband Eric, Amie McIntire, and Jimmy Morrow, all of Ardmore; Holly Atkinson and husband Ryan, Duncan;  Heather Russell and husband Robert, Annapolis, Md.; and Lisa Montgomery and husband Jeff, Lone Grove; seven great-grandchildren: Ali, Aryn, Abby, Emmy, Evie, Lily, and Layla; and three great-great grandchildren: Kaydence, Kiersten, and Elly, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless close friends.
Dortha was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her son, Dow Pannell; and two sisters: Edna Allen and Syble Courtright.
