Ardmore Police Department’s Investigations division recently reopened their investigation into the 2014 murder of an Ardmore resident, 59-year-old Ella Loftis.
Loftis’ murder was initially believed to be tied to organized crime in the area. Investigators had questioned people of interest in 2014, but were unable to substantiate the case.
New information led to the arrest of one suspect, and renewed interest in three others. According to APD and Carter County District Court records, Stephen Tanner Vineyard, 26, of Ada, was charged with a felony count of first degree murder Friday. Those documents, filed by Carter County District Attorney Craig Ladd, alleges that Vineyard’s actions were premeditated. The information filed further alleges that Vineyard shot Loftis with a shotgun multiple times, then left her to “languish and die.”
If convicted, Vineyard could face life in prison, possibly without parole, or death.
In a release late Friday afternoon, APD Capt. Keith Ingle said Vineyard is currently being held without bail.
The APD investigations division is seeking the public’s assistance in locating three more persons of interest in the matter of Loftis’ murder: Marquis Walters, Isaac Lee and Juaren McGee, all of Ardmore. Anyone with information regarding these three individuals is asked to contact the Ardmore Police Department at (580) 223-1212.
