In their quest to host a regional tournament for the third straight season, the Ardmore Lady Tigers unfortunately ran into a road block Monday afternoon.

For the second time in six days, the Duncan Lady Demons proved to be a nuisance in more ways than one for Ardmore, as the Lady Tigers were handed a 15-5 defeat at the Ardmore softball field in six innings.

The loss means the Lady Tigers can finish no better than third in the district standings, which means they will be on the road for the regional tournament.

A victory Tuesday against district champion Piedmont or on Thursday against MacArthur in Lawton will secure third place and a trip to either Woodward or Guthrie for regionals.

Duncan struck early with two runs in the first inning, before adding two more in the top of the third.

However, Ardmore came back with a flurry in the bottom of the third with three runs.

Avery Lowe got the Lady Tigers on the board with an RBI single to left field, before Makila Case cut the deficit to one with a two-RBI single to left field.

But the real trouble was yet to come for Ardmore.

Duncan extended its advantage with a three run hit in the top of the fourth, before adding one more to make it 8-3.

The Lady Demons added to their lead with five runs in the top of the fifth, before Ardmore kept the game alive thanks to Savannah Marris’ sacrifice fly RBI, and Angelina Bruner’s RBI single.

But a throwing error in the top of the sixth allowed two Duncan runs to score, sealing the defeat.

Marris took the loss on the mound for Ardmore, throwing six innings. She allowed 14 hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Ardmore (14-12, 7-3) will take on Piedmont at 5:30 p.m. today at the Ardmore softball field.
