In preparation for their regional tournament later this week, the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs decided to take on a team who has already booked their ticket for the state tournament on Monday.

In preparation for their regional tournament later this week, the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs decided to take on a team who has already booked their ticket for the state tournament on Monday.

Sulphur made the trip to Kingston to take on the Lady Redskins, as the Lady Bulldogs won their 28th game of the season with a close 7-6 victory in eight innings. 

Abby Beck got the scoring started for Sulphur in the top of the first when she slapped a two-RBI triple to center field. 

However, Madi Jones put the Lady Redskins in front in the bottom of the first inning with a grand slam to left field. 

Dana Wagnon increased the Kingston lead with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the second to make it 6-2.

Macenzie Ruth made it 6-3 in the top of the fifth when she hit an RBI double to left field scoring Makella Mobly. 

In the top of the sixth, Beck struck again this time with a solo home run to right field, before Meredith Jones tied the game with a two-RBI double to center field. 

Harley Beesley brought home the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI groundout. 

Blakelyn Barber got the win on the mound for Sulphur, throwing five innings. She allowed two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Beesley threw three innings in the game for Sulphur, allowing six earned runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts. 

Taylor Spence took the loss for Kingston, throwing 5 1/3 innings. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Sulphur (28-7) will begin its regional tournament on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Elgin at Newcastle High School.

Kingston (30-10) will take on Washington in the Class 3A state quarterfinals Thursday at 4 p.m. at Firelake Casino in Shawnee.
