The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus’ acrobats, animals and other performers are returning to Dickson this Friday.
The tent raising is slated for 9:30 a.m. Visitors are invited to come watch, then take a free tour of the circus grounds. Dickson Police Chief David Boes said the circus is a fundraiser for the police department.
“It goes into an association fund for other community events,” Boes said.
Close to 750 people attended the last circus, raising roughly $1,200 for the department.
Funds from the circus will go toward holiday events like the department’s annual Thanksgiving dinner and Easter egg hunt. The money is not used for the police department’s operational costs.
The tent will be located on Dickson Town Hall’s south lawn, with one show at 5 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m. There will also be pony rides outside the big top before the show.
Tickets are available in advance in Dickson at Dickson One-Stop, Town Hall or Citizens Bank and in Mannsville at Bill’s Cafe and J & L Quick Stop. Reservations can also be made over the phone before 4 p.m. at (866) 244-8676. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and free for children ages 2 to 12. At the door, tickets are $13 for adults, $8 for seniors and children.
Boes said more proceeds go to the department from tickets purchased in advance.
