On Tuesday, Oct. 16, Let’s Get Souped will be coming back to downtown Ardmore. Guests will be able to sample a wide variety of homemade soups, breads and desserts for the cost of $20 per adult or $5 per child. The event will raise funds for the Ardmore Main Street Authority and will also be a collection point for nonperishable food items for the Food and Resource Center of Southern Oklahoma.
“This is our annual fundraiser for Main Street and it’s what I like to call Ardmore’s favorite fall fundraiser,” said Labeth Nall, AMSA administrative assistant. “That’s because people can just get together over a bowl of soup and chitchat about whatever is going on.”
Nall said all of the soups, breads and desserts on the menu will be prepared and served by volunteers under the direction of D. Allen Wint.
“He goes to all of his friends he knows are ‘foodies’ who enjoy cooking,” Nall said. “For example, I know Jim Porter usually makes his famous shrimp bisque, Colin Chapman is going to be making a green chili pork stew, Buddy Parkerson makes a chili, and D. Allen Wint usually makes a chicken noodle soup that he’s pretty famous for.”
Nall said last year’s event had around 200 attendees and she is hoping for a similar-sized crowd this year. Last year was also the first year the event partnered with the Food and Resource Center of Southern Oklahoma. The partnership will continue this year and all attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to donate.
“Last year there was a huge box and they had to come with a truck to take it away,” Nall said. “So, hopefully, we’ll be able to help them out again this year.”
Let’s Get Souped is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Heritage Hall. Tickets are $20 per adult and $5 per child and can be purchased either at the door or in advance from Ardmore Main Street Authority located at 203 West Main Street or from any AMSA board member.
Also coming up, the AMSA is the rescheduled Wine Walk, which will be returning for its second year on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
