A memorial 5K run that has become an annual fixture in Ardmore has a few changes for 2018.
Some things that haven’t changed include what the race benefits — proceeds still go to the Robbie Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund — and the race will take place in Ardmore’s Historic Downtown.
A few things have been adjusted to fit the needs of the community, the Robbie’s Chase committee said.
“We moved the Chase to the fall in hopes of getting more participants,” said a committee member, Gayle Donica.
The route will be adjusted to skirt the construction around the Main Street project as well. “It won’t be a certified 5K due to the changes in the route,” Donica said. “But it will be pretty close.”
There is also a one mile “fun walk” for those who choose to participate that way.
Another recent change this year is the passing of Robbie Brooks’ mother, Jeri Watts on Sept. 27. The family has asked that those who wish to contribute in her memory do so through Community Activities in care of the Robbie Brooks Fund at PO Box 2597, Ardmore, OK, 73402.
Also new this year: student members of cross country teams can sign up for a discounted race rate of $15.
Registration is open through the day before the race at getmeregistered.com/robbieschase. To guarantee a t-shirt, participants should sign up by Friday, Oct. 5. The Chase begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, October 13. Maps, contact info and more are available online.
