After breaking their long losing streak to start the season, the Fox Foxes now find themselves on the verge of a playoff spot.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Fox Den, the Foxes can take another leap towards the post season when the host the Corn Bible Academy Crusaders.

Fox is currently 4-3 overall and 3-1 in District C-2.

Corn Bible is 2-5, 2-2, but a win over the Foxes would catapult the Crusaders into the top half of the district standings. Fox coach Brent Phelps knows his team has to be ready in order not to be victim of an upset

“Corn Bible has a great quarterback that can do a lot of things well,” he  said.

“We know we will need to keep an eye on him wherever he is on the field. They (Corn Bible) have good size up front that could cause us some problems.

“They have a good coaching staff that always seems to have their players ready to play,” Phelps added.

“Being at home is good, but we need to play well to get a win this week.”

Fox lost their first district game to Tipton, but they have now won three in a row against Grandfield, Temple and Thackerville.

The Crusaders meanwhile dropped their first five games, including district games against Maysville and Mountain View-Gotebo.

But they have recorded two wins in a row. They defeated Thackerville in week six and won by forfeit last week against Temple.

“We continue to focus on ourselves and how we can get better at what we do,” Phelps said.

“We are a small team size-wise, and that can work against us sometimes. We have to pay attention and do the little things well to off set that factor.”

“If we go out and play our game well, we are hoping to come away with a win.”

Next week the Foxes will be back at home for a district showdown against Maysville, before finishing the season on the road against Mountain View-Gotebo.
