Services for Jimmy Greenwood, 72, of Marietta, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Jason Langley and Pastor Shane Norton officiating. Military rites will be provided by a U.S. Army honors team.
Jimmy was born in Marietta on Oct. 14, 1945, the son of Denzil and Imogene McAnally Greenwood. He passed away Friday, Oct. 12, at his home.
A 1964 graduate of Marietta High School, Jimmy had made his home in Love County most of his life. He and Martha L. Kendrick were married in Dallas, Texas, on Oct. 9, 1970. Jimmy was employed in the shipping department of Michelin for 31 years before retiring and was currently employed in security for Michelin’s - Securitas. During that time he was also a member of the Army Reserves for 23 years. In addition, he was a volunteer fireman/first responder on both the Falconhead and Eastman fire departments. Jimmy was also a faithful blood donor reaching membership in the 55+ Gallon Club with 449 donations. He was a member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church and an avid supporter of Turner School athletics.
Preceding him in death were his parents; nephew, Franklin Epperson; and great-nephew, Chase Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home; son, Gregory Allan Greenwood, of Marietta; daughter, Jamie Banks and husband Jamie, of Overbrook; special son, Kenny Stinson and his wife Shawna, also of Overbrook; two brothers, John Greenwood and wife Marjorie and Ray Greenwood and wife Sheila, all of Marietta; two sisters, Lila Ann Epperson and Wanda Sandefur and husband Tim, of Marietta; sisters-in-law, Carol Martin, of Edmond, and Reta Milor and husband Charles, of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Allana Greenwood, Tanner Banks and Marissa, Trey “Slick” Greenwood, and Lauryn Banks; three great-grandchildren, Ryker, Haivyn, and Eliessia; special cousins, Linda and Bill Russell, of Plano, Texas; as well as many other loved ones and friends.
Casket bearers will be Virgil Perryman, Shane Miller, Travis Singleton, Jade Todd, Bobby Wilson, Jr., and Kermit McKinney. Honorary bearers are Jackie Barnes, Jack Drennan, Eddie Holland, Brent Holland, Cecil Miller, Butch Morris, Terry Hewitt, Randy Hicks, Sam Barrick, Gary Kirby, Terry Minyard, Robbie Dodson, Bobby Reed, Anthony Wood, and Jimmy’s Michelin family.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Baptist Home for Girls – Madill, OK or the Falconhead Volunteer Fire Department.
