Frances was born on her family’s homestead at Buckhorn Creek in Murray County, on Mar. 15, 1928, to Francis Butler and Ruby (Renegar) Butler. She attended and graduated from Ardmore High School. She began working at Kress Department Store at the age of 16. When Frances started dating Richard it was on the condition that she would go out with him to the Saturday Preview if Richard would take her to church on Sunday. We are thankful for her decision to follow Jesus, and her influence on the family for generations to come. Frances and Richard A. Powell married on Aug. 11, 1946, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore. She was a homemaker, and  served as a Bluebird and Camp Fire leader. After her children were in school, she worked at Montgomery Wards then as a rural mail carrier until her retirement. She loved to play games and taught us to follow the rules and play hard to win. She was a member of Carter County Home Extension Club and entered something in the Carter County Fair every year, including this year, winning many Blue Ribbons. She attended Senior lunches at Lone Grove Senior Citizens Center. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore.
