Ardmore High School will hold a bonfire and community pep rally on Thursday evening to support the Ardmore Tigers, who are headed to state.
The bonfire will begin at 5:30 p.m. and last until roughly 6:15 p.m. Multimedia consultant and cheer coach Eryn Denewellis said the school decided to plan for the event a few weeks ago.
“It would be something we’d do prior to the state game, as a celebration,” Denewellis said.
The bonfire will be held near Noble Stadium, west of Ardmore High School. Last year, the school held a similar bonfire for homecoming, but this year’s was canceled due to inclement weather.
“This is, if you will, a rescheduling of homecoming,” Denewellis said. “We decided why not just save it for if we make it to state?”
Ardmore High School Band, cheer and Tigerettes will perform at the bonfire, and seniors from the football team will talk about the season they’ve had so far. Denewellis said the whole city has joined in on the excitement
“People changing their signage to say things like ‘Go Tigers!’,” Denewellis said. “We’ve had a lot of community support behind the team and the success they’ve had this year.
