Softball enthusiasts from around the region have one more chance to compete this year. On December 8 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Ardmore Regional Park Softball Complex will be hosting the Toys for Tots Softball and Cornhole Tournament.

The entrance fee for the softball tournament is $150 and 10 unwrapped toys per team. To sign up for the cornhole tournament, the cost is $20 and two unwrapped toys per team of two.

This is the tournament’s inaugural year and Tes Stewart, recreation director at Ardmore Parks and Recreation, discussed the inspiration for the event.

“We’re trying to help promote other things, and we love to give back to the community,” Stewart said. “I know last year they needed a few more toys for Toys for Tots, so we figured that having a softball tournament would be a cool way to help them out.”

Ardmore Parks and Recreation also collects toys for Toys for Tots at Santa’s Workshop, and Assistant Director Alicia Henry explained why they wanted to add another event.

“With Santa’s Workshop, not a lot of people realize they are even coming,” Henry said. “They’re going by on the Interstate, see the Festival of Lights, and just kind of stumble into Santa’s Workshop. They don’t know to bring a toy. So with this, we’re going to be able to get a good amount of toys.”

The softball tournament will be a 250-USSSA-7/3 coed tournament. It will be double elimination and teams are only allowed four home runs. For unlimited home runs teams can pay $20 to receive wristbands.

Only eight teams will be accepted in the softball tournament because it has to be finished before the Festival of Lights begins. However, there is still space available. To sign up contact Tes Stewart at Ardmore Parks and Recreation at (580) 223-4844.
