While there might be a new coach leading the Plainview girls this season, the same winning mentality still exists.

Tuesday night, Chad Walker and his Plainview squad made it 2-for-2 on the season as they claimed a comfortable 45-22 victory over Marietta at the Plainview Activity Center.

A total of nine different players scored for Plainview in the victory with Amiya Howard leading the way with 14 points.

“My big girls are posting up well, and my guards are finding them the ball,” Walker said. “I like the team unity we have going on right now. We stress in practice about making the easy pass and hitting our shooters in stride. It’s a group effort all the way around.”

Marietta managed to grab an early 3-2 lead in the first quarter, and led by as many as four points at the 4:54 mark of the opening frame.

But, Plainview managed to claw its way back into the game and tied things up at 6-6 with less than four minutes to go in the first.

Plainview grabbed its first lead at 10-9 with 2:25 left in the first and never looked back, as the advantage grew to 13-9 at the end of the first.

After holding Marietta to just three points before halftime, Plainview led 20-12 going into the locker room.

Following the interval, it was much of the same in the third quarter as Plainview clamped down on defense, but kept its offensive momentum going.

Marietta managed just four points in the third quarter, as Plainview led 37-16 going into the fourth.

An 8-6 run by Plainview in the fourth quarter sealed the victory, dropping Marietta to 0-2 on the season.

Anna Simmons and Riley Grant each added seven points for Plainview in the game, with Peyton Jones scoring six points.

Marietta was led by Toriauna Douglass with nine points, followed by Kate Bone with eight points.

Plainview will be back in action Thursday hosing the Southern Oklahoma Classic tournament taking on Alma, Arkansas in the opening round at 7 p.m.

Marietta meanwhile will be at the Madill Winter Classic facing off with Gunter, TX in the first round at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
