After a successful 2017-18 campaign, the Fox basketball teams opened their seasons this past week at the Chattanooga Shootout.

After a successful 2017-18 campaign, the Fox basketball teams opened their seasons this past week at the Chattanooga Shootout. 

It was a rough start to the season for the Lady Foxes as they were defeated in both their contests by scores of 56-55 against Grandfield and 38-33 against Chattanooga.

As for the Foxes, they were able to claim two victories before falling in the finals of the tournament.

Fox opened the shootout with a 58-48 victory over Langston Hughes Academy out of Tulsa, with David Martin scoring 21 points to lead the Foxes, with twin brother Drew adding 14 points.

Game two brought the Foxes a 39-37 victory over Indiahoma, with JT Bivings leading the way with 11 points. David Martin added eight points with Drew Martin scoring seven points. 

In the finals, the Foxes were faced with a rematch from last years area tournament as they faced off with Big Pasture.

Unfortunately, the Foxes weren’t able to stay close in the second half as they fell 55-33.

Fox led 9-7 after the first quarter before finding themselves down 18-16 at the break.

However, the Foxes were outscored 37-17 in the second half.

David Martin led the Foxes with 12 points followed by Drew Martin with nine points. 

Matthew Bowerman and JT Bivings each had four points in the game.

Fox will play its home opener Tuesday night against Maysville with the girls starting at 6:30 p.m.  at the Fox Den on the campus of Fox High School.
