Saturday morning,  families gathered at the HFV Wilson Community Center to enjoy the morning with Santa Claus. There they enjoyed a free breakfast provided by Happy Days Diner, made crafts and gifts, gave Santa their Christmas lists, and vied for the prize candy canes in The Candy Cane Scramble.
This is the second year the Scramble has been part of the morning’s events. The event is akin to an Easter egg hunt but uses candy canes.
While the weather moved the event inside to the gym instead of outdoors, Kelian Miller, director of the HFV Wilson Community Center, said it did not hamper the fun.
“I think it was awesome,” Miller said. “Most of the candy canes were about one half inch, but if they found one of the five normal-sized canes, they came along with a one-hour pass to Urban Air.”
Miller also said the event was well attended with 284 people.
“The turnout was great,” Miller said. “We were actually kind of worried about seating there for a minute, but it all worked out. Everyone looks happy. All the kids are trying to talk to Santa, so I’d call it a big success.”
