Following a tough start to the season, the Ardmore Tigers hoped their first home game of the season would bring about a welcome change of pace against the Durant Lions Tuesday night.

Unfortunately, the Tigers were handed their most heartbreaking defeat of the year as Durant escaped Ardmore Gymnasium with a 62-61 victory.

In the first quarter, both teams went for a quick pace up the floor, but it was Durant who held the slim 14-13 advantage going into the second.

However, the Tigers responded with a 14-12 run before halftime to grab a narrow 27-26 lead going into the locker room.

Both teams came out firing on offense in the third quarter. combining for 31 points.

It was Ardmore though who had the slight edge, outscoring the Lions 17-14 to lead 44-40 going to the fourth quarter.

But down the stretch, the Tigers couldn’t maintain the momentum as the Lions went on a 22-17 run to steal the victory, keeping Ardmore winless on the season in the process.

Mylic Ritchie led the Tigers with 16 points followed by Dante Roberts with 14 points and Elijah Franks with 10 points. 

Ardmore is back at home at 8 p.m. Friday night against McAlester.
