While most teams were resting on Thursday, the Davis Wolves and Lady Wolves were busy in tournament action.
The Davis basketball teams made their way to Big 8 tournament, where both teams were in action in the opening round.
It was a heartbreaking opening to the tournament for the Lady Wolves as they were handed a narrow six point loss against the Lady Bulldogs from Stratford, leaving them at 2-3 on the season.
Davis got off to a slow start in the first quarter, managing just two points.
However, the Lady Wolves rebounded and scored 15 points before the halftime break.
Despite a 20-point effort in the second half, the Lady Wolves weren’t able to catch Stratford, leading to their second straight loss.
Rylie Truver led the Lady Wolves with 11 points followed by Grace Murphy with eight points.
Jolee Grinstead added five points for Davis.
All bad things must come to an end, and the same can now be said for the Davis Wolves winless streak to start the season.
Davis used a strong first and fourth quarter to overpower Lexington on Thursday, giving them their first win of the season, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process.
The Wolves raced out to a 19-9 start in the first quarter, before being outscored 12-9 in the second.
Despite the single digit scoring frame, the Wolves were still in the lead at the half 28-21.
A low-scoring third quarter saw a combined 17 points scored between the two teams, but it was Davis who remained in front at 37-29.
A 21-point fourth quarter by the Wolves iced the game as Lexington was held to just 15 points down the stretch.
Jett Martin led all scorers in the game with 22 points followed by Trey Parker with 10 points, and Cole Martin with nine points.
