On Friday afternoon members of the Lion’s Club of Ardmore met with a representative from Toys for Tots to make a Christmas donation.
“The mission of Lion’s Club is to serve others,” President Geneva Matlack said. “We help with vision care in Ardmore and the surrounding area. We also give two $1,000 scholarships out a year, one to a Plainview student and one to an Ardmore student.”
Matlack said that even though they are a small organization, they welcome anyone who wants to join.
“We all just feel the need to help others,” Matlack said.
Lion Vance Porter said this is the first time Lion’s Club of Ardmore has donated to Toys for Tots. They decided this would be a perfect way to help area children who otherwise might not receive any presents.
“We all individually bought toys and also presented a $100 check to them as well because we know how much they need things that people don’t always think about getting,” Porter said. “This will give them an opportunity to get some of that.”
Porter said that in years past he has been present when Toys for Tots delivered the gifts.
“The look on those children’s faces is amazing,” Porter said.
