WILSON — In the true spirit of Christmas, the Wilson Lady Eagles decided to do a little giving Monday night.

A total of two players finished in double figures, as the Lady Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak with a 46-38 victory over Thackerville at the Wilson High School Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats started off with a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but Lexy Hodges sent Wilson in front thanks to an old-fashioned four point play to make it 4-2 at the 5:40 mark of the opening quarter.

Wilson’s lead would grow to 7-4 with 1:20 left in the first, but it was the Lady Wildcats who finished with a flurry, going on a 4-0 run to grab the 8-7 lead with 42 seconds left in the frame.

However, the Lady Eagles had one more trick up their sleeve, as a last second basket helped put them back in front at 10-8 going to the second.

A back-and-forth second quarter had the Lady Eagles in front at 14-10, before things were all square at 14-14 with 3:51 left before halftime.

This time however, it was the Lady Eagles who finished off the quarter with an offensive flurry, as Wilson went on a 6-0 scoring run to lead 20-14 going into the locker room.

Following the break, it seemed like Wilson couldn’t stop scoring on offense.

Less than five minutes into the third quarter, Wilson held a commanding 30-18 advantage, before taking a 31-21 lead into the fourth.

Down the stretch though, the Lady Wildcats made several attempts to storm back.

Thackerville would get no closer than six points in the last five minutes, as the Lady Eagles grabbed only their second victory of the season, and first at home this year.

Bethany Ross led the Lady Eagles with 13 points followed by Lexy Hodges with 12 points.

Emma Brooks scored eight points, with Destiny Colbert adding six points.

Wilson is off until after the new year when the Lady Eagles will host Velma-Alma on Jan. 8.
