David Ray Byers, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, in Ardmore. Family will hold private services at a later date. Cremation under the direction of Griffin ~ Hillcrest Crematory.
David was born at Ardmore on Mar. 6, 1942, to Alfred Byers and Gwendolyn (Cavner) Byers. He attended Dickson High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1960. He took a position as a salesman with Auto Electric of Ardmore. David married Miss Shirley Sue Pearson on Apr. 28, 1963, at Ardmore. He then went to work for OG&E for two years and, when Uniroyal opened the plant in Ardmore, he was one of the first employees hired. David worked for 26 years before retiring from Michelin in 1993. In his retirement, he worked at Meadow Park in maintenance, and then later for SOWC as a meter reader. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Mason Byers, brothers: Luther, Kenneth, Wayne, Eldon, and Pete, and sisters: Dorothy, Marilyn, Carolann, and Kathy.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Byers of the home, and two sons: Dennis Byers and Steve Byers. Four grandchildren: Trevor Byers, Sommer Byers, Trace Hoosier, and Trent Hoosier. Five great-grandchildren: Ahava Byers, Mark Byers, Jessie Byers, Maysie Byers, and Bobbye Byers. Brother, Denny Byers and his wife, Kay, all of Ardmore. Two sisters-in-law: JoAnne Byers, of Ardmore and Nancy Byers, of Ada. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
