With the Christmas holiday just a few short days away, the Ardmore Tigers were hoping to give themselves a much needed present Thursday night in the form of their first victory.

Unfortunately, the Byng Pirates were not in a giving mood, shutting down the festive spirit and the Tigers to the tune of a 71-55 defeat at the Ardmore High School Gymnasium.

In the first quarter it was the Pirates going on a 6-0 run to start the game, before Ardmore finished the opening frame with a flurry going on an 8-6 run to get to within four at 12-8 to start the second.

Ardmore would get to within three points at 14-11 with 7:01 left before halftime, but would never get closer the rest of the contest.

Byng kept the Tigers at bay with a 14-13 run the rest of the first half to lead 38-24 at the break.

Things didn’t get much better for the Tigers in the third quarter as they managed just 12 points while the Pirates kept their strong offensive night going with 17 points in the frame.

The Tigers did manage to outscore the Pirates in the fourth quarter by a score of 19-16.

Keshon Goodin led the Tigers with 14 points in the game, followed by T.J. Hamilton with nine points.

Elijah Franks and EJ Cohee each scored eight points apiece in the game for Ardmore.

Ardmore (0-6) will be back in action this afternoon at 4 p.m. on the road against the Gainesville Leopards at Gainesville, Texas.
