Marietta — Services for Delbert Wayne “Polk Salad” Allison of Overbrook, Okla., are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at Christ Tabernacle of Marietta with Pastor Stephen Carroll and Pastor Ronnie Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Crinerville Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Wayne was born on Aug. 16, 1935, in Simon, Okla., to Loyd and Ethel “Dutch” Allison. On Jan. 4, 2019, Wayne, loving husband, father and papa, went to his heavenly home at the age of 83, after battling cancer.
He attended and graduated school at Meadowbrook where he enjoyed playing basketball. Wayne worked hard during his life. He remembered riding in the back of the family pickup truck all the way to California, in 1947, where they worked in a peach orchard. He assembled boxes for three cents a box and could make $3.00 per day. Back in Oklahoma he worked in the peanut field, the oil field and on the ranch. Wayne also drove a truck for Marietta Sportswear for a number of years until his retirement in 1994.
During his life he spent many hours on the back of a horse or in the woods with a dog. He was an avid team roper and coon hunter for many years. Throughout his life he has had many lifelong friends, many of whom knew him as “Polk Salad.”
Wayne always enjoyed spending time with family. He especially loved being around his grandchildren who were the joy of his life and could do no wrong.
He regularly attended Christ Tabernacle Church and was very proud to be baptized by Pastor Ronnie Carroll on May 1, 2016. He knew he had a home in heaven and reminded his family many times after he became ill.
On May 4, 1973, he and Elsie Harmon were married in Ardmore. Wayne helped raise one son, Troy, and two daughters, Sheila and Tenia.
On July 8, 1991, Wayne married Sharon Domoney. He helped raise three daughters, Traci, Shari and Karen.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father and mother, Loyd and Dutch; wife, Elsie; brother, Harold; sister, Arzella Harper; and granddaughter, Lynzi Hockersmith.
