After enduring a split decision Friday night at home against Elmore City-Pernell, the Healdton boys and girls basketball teams were hoping for better luck Saturday afternoon on the road against Empire in a make-up contest from late November.

After enduring a split decision Friday night at home against Elmore City-Pernell, the Healdton boys and girls basketball teams were hoping for better luck Saturday afternoon on the road against Empire in a make-up contest from late November.

Unfortunately, it was another split day for the Healdton boys and girls teams as the Lady Bulldogs were defeated while the Bulldogs claimed their second straight victory.

In the girls contest, Healdton struggled against the No. 20 Empire girls, who claimed a comfortable 74-48 victory.

Empire led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, before Healdton was outscored 24-7 in the second quarter.

Facing a deficit entering the second half, Healdton responded with a 19-point third quarter only to have Empire match it with 19 points of its own.

Healdton was outscored 16-12 in the fourth.

Torree Wingo led Healdton with 15 points followed by Macey Howell with 14 points. 

In the boys contest, Healdton managed to claim a narrow 61-58 victory, giving them two in a row and moving them to 6-5 on the season.

Empire managed to outscore Healdton 30-22 in the first half, before a 12-10 third quarter put Healdton within striking distance at 41-34.

Healdton outscored Empire 27-17 in the fourth.

Jessei Pittman led the scoring for Healdton with 20 points in the contest.
