Funeral services for Vanessa Jimenez Matlock, 28, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Aaron Heflin officiating.
Vanessa was born Sept. 21, 1990, in Dodge City, Kan., to Juan Jimenez and Marcela (Licea) Jimenez and passed from this life Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, in Fort Worth as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She lived in Ardmore and Longview, Texas, as a child, moving back to Ardmore at the age of 14. At Ardmore High School she was a member of the band, Young Women’s Leadership Association, and Spanish Club. After graduation Vanessa attended ECU for two years where she was a band member. She graduated from OSU in 2013 with a degree in Spanish. During the summer before her senior year, she participated in OSU’s Study Abroad Program traveling to Peru.
On Aug. 17, 2013, she married Terry Blaine Matlock, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ardmore. During her first two years as a teacher, she worked in Ardmore City Schools as an ELL District Coordinator/teacher. After Blaine’s job took them to Fort Worth, Vanessa taught three years at Brock Elementary in Burleson, Texas. During the current school year she was teaching 4th grade at Foster Elementary in Arlington, Texas.
Vanessa loved people. Her infectious smile and bubbly personality could light up a room. She loved music, dancing and teaching dancing, and playing the guitar.
She is survived by her husband Terry Blaine Matlock, of Fort Worth; parents, Marcela Jimenez, of Longview, Texas and Juan and Maria Jimenez, of Ardmore; sister, Destiny Jimenez, Fort Worth; brothers, Gabriel and Juan Daniel Jimenez, of Ardmore, Juan Carlos Jimenez, of Los Angeles, Luis Alvarez and Carlos Alvarez, of Longview and grandmother Maria Rangel, of Longview. She is also survived by Blaine’s family: mother-in-law, Kim Bailey, Ardmore; father and mother-in-law Leonard and Janice Shockley, Ardmore; grandmother-in-law Iva Shockley, Marietta; sister-in-law, Dixie Bailey.
