CCJ inmate charged with bringing contraband into jail
Felony charges of bringing contraband into jail were filed Tuesday on Bryant Edward French, Jr., after Carter County Sheriff’s detention officers recovered a small cell phone alleged to belong to French.
According to reports, French is alleged to have snuck the cell phone — about the size of a plastic spoon — into the jail through a body orifice.
“These are things that are snuck in all the time,” Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said. “It’s pretty common.”
According to reports, detention officers were investigating reports of contraband when the cell phone allegedly fell from French’s pants.
Bryant said the miniature cell phone includes a charging port on the top of the phone and a sim card that is capable of sending text and making calls.
“It’s a day-to-day battle, people are always trying to sneak things in,” Bryant said.
