FOX — During the season, the Wilson Lady Eagles showed they had what it took to rise to the occasion when needed.

Unfortunately, the Maysville Lady Warriors didn’t seem interested in letting that happen Friday night.

Maysville managed to end the Lady Eagles season with a 36-29 defeat in the opening round of the district tournament at Fox High School.

The first quarter opened with both teams trading baskets back and forth. Senior Bethani Ross led the Lady Eagles to an early 11-10 lead after scoring five points in the quarter.

Ross and Tucker Welch led the Lady Eagles in scoring for the game with eight points apiece.

The game started to slip away from the Lady Eagles in the second quarter.

Maysville used a full-court press defensively in the quarter and held the Lady Eagles to two made free throws by Lexy Hodges with ten seconds left in the half.

Hodges finished with four points, going a perfect four-for-four at the free throw line.

Trailing just 16-13 entering the third quarter, the Lady Eagles got the scoring started early when Welch sank her third basket of the game to start the half.

The Lady Warriors used a 12-0 run to finish the quarter to go ahead 28-15 with one period remaining.

With the game still well within reach, the Lady Eagles clawed their way back with an 8-4 run to start the quarter, could only get to within eight.
