As the old saying goes “It’s not how you start, but how you finish.”

For the No. 17 Plainview Lady Indians, while they didn’t have the best start on Saturday against Lone Grove, their finishing was all that matter.

A pair of players scored in double figures as the Lady Indians won their 16th game of the season with a 45-36 victory against the Lady Horns at the Plainview Activity Center.

Lone Grove came out the stronger side in the opening quarter as the Lady Horns grabbed a 13-7 lead going to the second.

Plainview managed to get to within six points at 15-9 with 7:03 left before halftime, but the Lady Indians couldn’t get any closer in the first half.

As a result, Plainview was down 22-14 going to the break.

However, it took less than three minutes of the third quarter for things to be evened up at 22-22, before Plainview grabbed the lead at 25-22 with 5:27 left in the third.

But less than two minutes later the Lady Horns were back in front at 26-25.

This would be the last time Lone Grove would lead in the game as the Lady Indians got the advantage back at 29-26, before taking a 33-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lone Grove managed to get to within one point at 36-35 down the stretch, but the Lady Indians were able to shut the door with a 9-1 run down the stretch.

Peyton Jones led the Lady Indians with 15 points in the game followed by Amiya Howard with 11 points.

Madison Anderson led Lone Grove with 12 points followed by Cheyanne Davis with 10 points.

Plainview will end the regular season Tuesday night against Dickson on the road, while Lone Grove is at home against Bridge Creek the same night.
